Portrait (in Englisch)
Together with the associations of teachers of other subjects, VSGg forms part of the Association of Swiss College Teachers as well as being a branch of ASG (Swiss Association of Geographers). Teachers of geography in lower and upper classes at colleges, vocational schools and universities can apply for membership.
Goals
- To promote the scientific and didactic aspects of teaching geography.
- To safeguard the position of geography in the curriculum, syllabus and examination requirements of schools as well as to contribute to promoting the professional interests of Swiss geography teachers.
- To offer its members opportunities of increasing their professional expertise through in-service training and excursions, and to encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences among the members.
Activities
The teaching of geography has been changing considerably over the past few years. It is important for the public to be made aware of the aims of modern geography teaching as they are also to be laid down in the new "Rahmenlehrpläne für Maturitätsschulen". Therefore steps have been taken on various levels to ensure that the general public is being informed. Special commissions (both temporary and permanent) can be set up to deal with questions of a more specific nature.
At present the following topics are being examined:
- in-service training;
- didactics of geography.
In our magazine GeoAgenda members are kept informed about our activities and exchange ideas concerning the teaching of geography.
